CISD- Re-entry Phase

The last phase is as important as the previous phases and should not be overlooked due to time constraints, fatigue, or anything else.  A productive group experience must run its course.  The Re-entry phase is a time to clarify issues, answer questions, make summary statements and return the group to normal functions.  It is an exercise in forward thinking. The goal is to put closure on the discussions that occurred in the debriefing.  To achieve a successful closure and thus re-entry, the are several tasks that participants need to work through:

  1. Introduce any new material they wish to discuss.
  2. Review old material already discussed.
  3. Ask any questions they might have.
  4. Discuss anything they wish which would help them to bring closure to the debriefing.

Similarly, the debriefing team will need to:

  1. Answer any questions posed to it.
  2. Reassure and inform as needed.
  3. State any feelings which are suspected to be there, but which have not been brought up by the participant.
  4. Provide appropriate handouts.
  5. Make summary comments.

Summations are made by all members of the CISD team.  They should be true reflections of the courage of the group, their appreciation and gratefulness of the group and the work they do.  Once this is done, one last call to the group for anything else and then the group comes to an end.  The CISM team readies themselves for the post-debriefing activities.
